A huge thanks to everyone who contributed to our very successful hosting of two Connacht Club Championship games over the past weekend. On Saturday, Shamrock Gaels beat Fenagh St Cailins of Leitrim by a point in the Intermediate competition, and on Sunday Ballintubber from Mayo beat Tourlestrane by a point in the Senior. Once again, everything was superbly organized from a club point of view so well done to everyone involved in stewarding, catering, parking or any other role. Thanks too to local landowners for their cooperation in dealing with Sunday’s big crowd. Next weekend, we host Easkey’s Connacht Junior Championship semi-final meeting on Saturday. Throw-in is at 1.30pm.

There was a unique double for the club in the past week on the refereeing front. Well done to both men on their efficient handling of the marquee fixture in either code.

Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA notes 14th October 2018
County final
October 14th 2018: A Super Sunday. The hosting of the Sligo Minor and Senior Championship finals at Quigabar for the first time since 1987 proved to be a resounding success on Sunday last, as the club hung out its brightest colours to welcome the participating teams, GAA President John Horan and the Sligo GAA faithful. From start to finish the day went off without a hitch thanks to our large band of stewards – almost 100 high vis vests were dotted around the ground and surrounds – coordinated by Mixie Jacob, Joe Cawley and Johnny Mullaney. A sincere thanks to anyone who helped out in any way to cater for the crowd of approximately 2000, and to our ladies committee who looked after our special guests and officials with their customary efficiency. Well done also to our pitch committee who had the playing surface in immaculate condition for both games. Congratulations to Tourlestrane and St Molaise Gaels on their respective successes and commiserations to Tubbercurry and Shamrock Gaels. It truly was a day that will live long in the memory for anyone associated with Enniscrone/Kilglass.

Intermediate
There was major disappointment for our Intermediate team and management after their championship campaign came to an end following a 0-9 to 2-8 semi-final replay loss to Shamrock Gaels last Sunday in Bunninadden. After an impressive opening half display playing into the wind our lads held a 0-6 to 0-5 lead, but two Shamrock Gaels goals at the start of the second half swung the tie in their favour and unfortunately we never regained the momentum. The club extends its thanks to the panel of players and the management team of Con O’Meara, Pat Darcy, Keith Mullaney and Declan Hughes for their efforts throughout 2018. Thanks also to our large travelling support last Sunday and throughout the championship. Best wishes to Shamrock Gaels in the final.

Our Intermediate team played out a 1-10 to 0-13 draw with Shamrock Gaels in the semi-final of the Intermediate Championship at Bunninadden last Sunday afternoon. Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA notes 23rd September 2018
Intermediate

Our Intermediate team booked their place in a first Intermediate championship semi-final since 2005 with a dramatic 1-17 to 1-16 quarter-final replay win over Ballymote after extra time last Sunday. This was a true championship encounter with both sides enjoying spells of dominance. We fought back late on to force a draw in normal time, 1-12 to 0-15, after a promising first half saw us lead 0-8 to 0-4 at half time. The key score in extra time was Brian Coleman’s goal after excellent work from Aaron Duffy in the build-up. We led 1-16 to 1-13 at half-time in extra time and lived dangerously at times in the second period but held on to win by the narrowest of margins, with Greg Regan making a vital save late on. While this was a big win for our lads, we commiserate with Ballymote who were very gracious in defeat despite their disappointment. For our boys, they have a quick turnaround for next Sunday’s semi-final against Shamrock Gaels – that throws in at 1pm at Bunninadden. A large support would be appreciated; thanks to everyone for their support last Sunday.

U-14
Our U-14s commence their B Championship campaign on Friday evening with an opening round tie away to Drumcliffe/Rosses Point from 7pm.
U-12
Our U-12s had a very busy week but unfortunately came out on the losing side in two finals. Despite a gallant effort last Thursday at Scarden, they were beaten (in only their second defeat of the year) by an impressive Geevagh outfit, 0-22 to 0-10, the Division Two Cup final. On Sunday, they participated in the Billy Anderson Cup organized by the Ardnaree Sarsfields club and following wins over Lahardane MacHales and Castleconnor progressed to the decider but fell short against the hosts. Despite these two losses this team and squad has shown very well throughout the year. Well done to all the players and management.
Cúl Camps
A huge thanks to all participants, parents and coaches involved in last week’s massive Cúl Camp at Quigabar. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves!
Mothers and Others blitz
Saturday provided a major highlight of the football year so far following a superbly run Mothers and Others blitz at Quigabar as part of the Enniscrone Black Pig Festival. This was organized by the Enniscrone/Kilglass Mothers and Others group. 11 teams from across Sligo and Mayo took part, with plenty of off-the-field activity also available for all ages! Well done to all involved on running such a successful event that garnered praise from many throughout the day.
Club lapel pins
There are a limited number of lapel pins showcasing the club crest – and importantly the correct spelling of Enniscrone as Gaeilge agus as Béarla – available at present. Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA notes 22nd July 2018
Minor

There was major disappointment for the Enniscrone-Kilglass/Easkey minor team last Thursday evening when they were beaten by St Molaise Gaels at Quigabar in the first round of the championship by a point, 3-7 to 3-8. Leading by five points in the closing stages, the concession of two very poor goals late on resulted in the loss. Despite this disappointment, the lads will hope for improvement away to Ballymote/Bunninadden next Thursday at 7pm
U-16
The Enniscrone-Kilglass/Easkey U-16s got their championship campaign off to a winning start with a 7-17 to 2-7 defeat of Eastern Harps. They play Tourlestrane on Monday evening (July 23rd) at 7pm in Tourlestrane.

Our U-14s secured silverware on Friday evening last when they claimed the Division Two shield title with a 3-10 to 1-7 win over Coolaney/Mullinabreena at Scarden. 3-7 to 0-2 ahead at half-time, the lads did well in the second half against the wind to end as deserving winners. Well done to everyone involved on this success. The squad from Friday was: Finn Conway; Eoin Tuffy, Lorcan Gregory; Darragh Mulrooney, Matthew Foley, Ryan O’Donnell; Brian Duffy, Jordan Stevens; Tommy Quinn, Lee Devaney, Oisin Arthur; Oisin Finnerty, Pearse Sheridan. Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA notes 15th July 2018
Intermediate

Our Intermediate team concluded their Division Two league campaign in a positive fashion following a 1-11 to 0-12 win away to Geevagh last Sunday. The sides were level at the break, 1-5 to 0-8, and despite going three points up at one stage in the second half, our lads required late scores from Shane Hargadon and Christopher Tuffy to hold off a late Geevagh revival. The lads now have three weeks to prepare for the Intermediate Championship, which gets underway on the August Bank Holiday weekend with against Castleconnor.
U-16
The Enniscrone-Kilglass/Easkey U-16s secured silverware last Monday evening when they claimed the Division Two cup title with a comprehensive 8-15 to 4-10 win over Shamrock Gaels in Tubbercurry. Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA notes 1st July 2018
Intermediate

Our intermediate team collected the two league points on offer at Quigabar last Sunday when they beat Bunninadden, 1-9 to 0-6. In an uninspiring contest, our lads dominated the exchanges throughout but failed to capitalize on having the lions share of possession. 0-4 to 0-2 ahead at the break having played into a strong breeze in the first half, the lads only pulled away with a goal ten minutes from time. They have a break in action next weekend.
U-16

Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA notes 24th June 2018
Intermediate

Our intermediate team beat Castleconnor 2-16 to 2-14 in the final round of the Benson Cup last Sunday afternoon at Corballa. Having established a 2-7 to 0-5 interval advantage, the lads will be disappointed with their second half display. They finish the campaign with three wins and a draw from four games but miss out on a place in the final on score difference. Next Sunday, the lads return to league action with a home fixture against Bunninadden at 2pm in Quigabar. Please support if possible.

Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA notes 17th June 2018
Intermediate

A late Shane Hargadon goal salvaged a 1-12 to 0-15 draw for our intermediate team against old rivals Easkey in a competitive Benson Cup clash at Quigabar last Sunday. A point down at the break having played into the wind in the opening half, our lads will be disappointed not to have kicked on in the second period. Prior to throw-in a minute’s silence was observed in memory of former club player and executive member Gerry Gilroy RIP. Next Sunday at 1pm the lads have their final group game against Castleconnor in Corballa.
Minor/U-16
Continued good luck to all club players currently sitting state examinations.
U-14

Our U-12s return to action on Tuesday evening at home to Curry from 7pm.
U-10
Our U-10s had a very enjoyable outing at Calry/St Joseph’s GAA club on Saturday morning where they finished second in a blitz competition. Most encouraging however was the team’s success in the skills competition which illustrates the excellent work being carried out at this age group. Well done to all and thanks to the Calry/St Joseph’s club for their hospitality.
Mothers and Others
Well done to the Enniscrone/Kilglass Mothers and Others squad and their coach Paul on their excellent performance at the Connacht Blitz at the GAA Centre in Ballyhaunis on Saturday last. Continued success to all the group.

Our intermediate team played out a 0-11 apiece draw with neighbours Castleconnor at Quigabar last Saturday evening in round six of the Division Two league. Both also extended sympathy to any bereaved families during the year, particularly noting the sad passing of club stalwart Joe McManus in January. Joe McManus RIP

The club was greatly saddened this week at the passing of one of our greatest stalwarts, Joe McManus. Since arriving in Enniscrone in the 1960s as Garda Sergeant, Joe was a truly dedicated clubman and contributed enormously to the GAA in our parish and at county level also as a member of the Sligo County Board for many years. The esteem in which Joe was held was illustrated in the size of our club guard of honour on Wednesday evening, and again on Thursday morning. Club colours draped the coffin as Joe was brought to his final resting place in St Patrick’s Cemetery. The club extends its deepest sympathy to the McManus family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
FBD League
Unfortunately the FBD League meeting of Sligo and Mayo had to be moved from Quigabar to Ballina last Sunday morning after torrential overnight rain made our pitch unplayable. While disappointing, it was the correct decision in light of the dangerous underfoot conditions. Nonetheless thanks to all who had helped us prepare for the game since we were notified last Friday afternoon of the fixture.
